M&M to shut factories for up to 3 days to adjust production to slowdown

India automobile giant Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has announced its shut its factories for up to three days this month to adjust production to the slowdown in the market.

Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Limited, the wholly owned subsidiary of the utility vehicle giant, will also observe 1-3 no production days at its Chakan manufacturing facility during the remaining period of January.

Subdued consumer sentiment forced a number of auto makers, including Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), to report sharp declines in November passenger vehicle sales.

Tata Motors on Sunday announced that it suffered a fall of around 39 per cent in its November sales at 40,863 units. It was the company's lowest monthly sales in as many as three years. While sales of Indica, Indigo and Nano cars slipped to
7,910 units; sales of Aria, Sumo, Safari and Venture fell to 2,466 units.

Indian auto giant Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is still learning to become smarter and self-sufficient, Mahindra's automotive & farm business president Pawan Goenka said.

In March this year, technical glitches in the Mahindra XUV500 forced the company to recall as many as 20,000 units of the vehicle. The recall was announced after a number of XUV500 owners reported problems in the vehicle's fluid hose, left wiper-blade cover and front power-window units.

Mahindra shares jump on Spain’s CIE Automotive deal

Mahindra Group shares scored considerable gains in early trade on Monday after the tractor & utility vehicle giant announced a stake sale and purchase deal with Spanish auto parts maker CIE Automotive.

Mahindra announced that CIE Automotive would acquire 46-52 per cent stakes in its automotive component businesses - Mahindra Systech - through its Brazilian subsidiary Autometal for $116 million (nearly Rs 766 crore).

Mahindra Group will also acquire 13.5 per cent stake in CIE Automotive, becoming the second-largest stakeholder in the Spanish auto parts maker.

Powered by Mahindra's four-cylinder common rail engine that delivers power of 63 BHP and top torque of 195 Nm, the Bolero Maxi Truck Plus delivers mileage of 17.7 kilometers per litre.

The much awaited electric car, Reva e2o by Mahindra was launched on Wednesday for Bangalore market. One full recharge of this new car by Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Private Limited can take you for long 100 kilometers distance.

The car has the seating capacity of four adults. According to Chetan Maini, Reva's Strategy and Technology Chief, the car weighing 830 kg is powered by lithium-ion batteries and is supported by a three-phase electric motor while on automatic mode.

M&M to stop tractor production to cut down on inventory

Utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has announced its decision to stop production of tractors at two of its tractor plants for a few days to cut down on inventory.

The biggest tractor manufacturer of India announced that it would observe `no-production days' at its Rudrapur and Jaipur plants to align production with low demand.

Jaipur plant will observe five no-production days, while Rudrapur plant will stop production for two days, during the period from March 24 to March 31.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), India's leading manufacturer of sports utility vehicles (SUVs), has announced that it would roll out three totally new vehicles from fiscal 2015.

M&M also conformed that it would also launch at least four refreshes of its existing products in the twelve months.

Pawan Goenka, president of automotive & farm equipment sectors at M&M, said, "Next 12 months will not see new launches but at least four refreshes of the existing products. We are working on three new products, which will hit the market from fiscal 2015."
