Hindalco’s net slips 25% y-o-y

Hindalco Industries Ltd, India’s second-largest aluminum producer, on Tuesday reported a fall of 24.68 per cent in net profit to Rs 482 crore for its fourth fiscal quarter ended March 31, 2013.

The company’s net sales slipped 8.5 per cent to Rs 6,994 crore in the January to March quarter, from Rs 7,647 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

Gross revenues from aluminium and copper dropped 4.10 per cent and 10.63 per cent to Rs 2,396 crore and Rs 4,607 crore, respectively.

Finance costs jumped a whopping 97 per cent to Rs 158 crore.

It has been reported that Hindalco Industries is planning to invest Rs 10,000 upon its various projects located in Madhya Pradesh and Orissa. Following the foot step of Hindalco Industries, the Aditya Birla Company will also be making an investment of Rs 700 crore on its Dahej unit.

It has been informed that the investment is being made by the companies as their projects were taking more time in completing than it was expected. While addressing to stakeholders, the companies said that the delay was being cause because of the issues related to environment clearances and procuring land.

The company has announced its financial results for the third quarter of the ongoing fiscal year on Saturday, 12 February 2011. It has informed that the net profit of the firm has gone up by 7.78% in this quarter under review.

The net profit of Hindalco was recorded Rs. 460.34 crore in the quarter ended on 31st December.

The Mumbai based company, metals major Hindalco Industries, a flagship of the Aditya Birla group , said its net profit in the January-March period rose to Rs 664 crore from Rs 269 crore last year , and the sales in the same period jumped 43 percent to Rs 5,404 crore.

It may be noted that Aluminum is a major contender with steel for use in cars and is increasingly preferred due to its light weight that reduces fuel consumption and the shares of Hindalco were down 3.3 percent at Rs 169.70 on BSE on a day when the broader Sensex fell 1 % due to the profit taking.

The board is exploring the GDR option in view of the volatility in domestic markets.
