LCA Tejas makes its maiden flight

India's indigenously developed light combat aircraft Tejas made its maiden flight on Sunday.

State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) said in a statement that Tejas flew at supersonic speed and an angle of attack of 20 degrees, and that the performance was flawless.

Dr R K Tyagi, chairman of HAL, said, "The performance of the aircraft was flawless and with this, the Initial Operation Clearance for the aircraft can be expected soon."

Before the Sunday's flight, Tejas had reportedly undergone a series of checks by the certifying & inspecting agencies over the few weeks.

India's first indigenous combat helicopter capable of participating in anti-Naxal and counter terrorism operations on Sunday took to the skies, marking its first official flight at the HAL airport here in the presence of the Defence Secretary R K Singh, Vice-chief of air staff, air marshal P K Barbora, Chairman HAL, Ashok Nayak and senior officials of defence ministry and the forces.
