According to recent reports, Ford has signed a software partnership with Canada-based device maker BlackBerry, for powering the automaker's in-car entertainment and communications systems. The move implies that Ford is planning to drop Microsoft's in-car technology in favor of BlackBerry software.

The potential switch - from Microsoft to BlackBerry - which Ford is planning as a result of its software partnership with BlackBerry was first reported in the February issue of the Hansen Report, an auto industry newsletter.

After forcing the exits of two senior employees at advertisement agency JWT India, controversial Figo car ad depicting former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi now forced auto giant Ford to expel one of its high-ranking executive.

The recently leaked ad, produced by JWT India, depicted Silvio Berlusconi in a Ford Figo car, with handcuffed & gagged young women in the car's trunk.

The controversial ad never formally aired, but it leaked online and triggered a big controversy due to its nasty and sexual nature.

Information technology consulting and software firm HCL Technologies limited yesterday announced that it had won an infrastructure management services contract worth $100 million from auto giant Ford Motor Co.

The infrastructure management services contract from the US-based automaker will span over a period of five years.

The Business Standard reported, "The value of the five-year contract is estimated to be close to $100 million approximately Rs 544 crore."

In a Ford India company report it was revealed that the company will make the engine for EcoSport SUV in India. This will help the company in reducing the tax burden and thus the price of the vehicle will be competitive.

"We will initially import the engines [from Europe], but will in future manufacture them locally," Sriram Padmanabhan, vice president for marketing at Ford's India unit, said Friday.

Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India said that the company is very excited to enter South Africa with its Figo and as the product is very already very popular in the Indian market, it is believed that it will show similar results in the other markets as well.
