Dow chief to skip Indo-US CEO forum meeting

The Chairman and CEO of Dow chemicals Andrew Liveris will not attend the Indo-US CEO business meeting scheduled on Tuesday.

Dow spokesperson told PTI that the meeting can’t be attended by the CEO as he has prior engagement.

The Indian delegation led by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Commerce Minister Anand Sharma, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia and other prominent leaders from corporate sectors will attend the meeting.

Salman Khursheed who is the minister for corporate affairs said that the government will investigate further into the purchase agreement of Union Carbide by Dow Chemical to find out if they can be freed from the financial responsibility related to the Bhopal environment. The minister said in an interview with The Telegraph that if there is anything in the contract where Dow Chemical protects itself from the liabilities, then it would be able to come out of the situation unharmed.
