Government plans new Telecom licensing rules

The central government is planning to change the licensing rules for telecommunications service providers due to security concerns related to the communication networks in the country.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has said in a statement on Friday that it will discuss the issue with the service providers and other stakeholders and prepare the new guidelines in week’s time.

Telecom operators opposes per-second billing system

Indian Telecom operators have shown their strong opposition to a decision by the TRAI chairman J S Sarma's in which he has impelled the operators to implement a tariff system that is based on pay per second scheme as against the existing pay per pulse scheme.

In the currently implemented pulse system, users have to pay for a complete pulse of one minute even if the call was terminated before the pulse.
