Political ads will boost CBS’s profit: CEO Moonves says

Strong political TV advertising will provide a big boost to CBS Corp.'s profit in the current fiscal year, Chief Executive Officer Les Moonves said.

Speaking at an entertainment law conference at the University of California, Los Angeles, Moonves pointed to the increase in the amount of money being spent on TV and radio advertising commercials by political action committees in support of their candidates.

Moonves said political advertising on CBS would increase the company's profit by $180 million this fiscal year.

Reliance Broadcast is reported to have conglomerated with US-based CBS Corp. to undergo an equal joint venture in a bid to launch television channels in India. The preliminary tie-up for the joint venture was signed in June.

"The venture is more about the assets that both companies are bringing to the table", Tarun Katial, CEO, RBNL told reporters when asked about the financial terms.

Reliance Broadcast Network and a unit of CBS Corp have decided to come together and start a new TV channel. Reliance Broadcast is a subsidiary of Anil Ambani's entertainment business.

The television channel will be formed by the joint venture of both the companies. One must remember that this is the first time the two companies are joining hands and coming up with something.

Reliance Broadcast was known as Reliance Media World until last week. The two companies now want to share the growing pie of Indian TV industry.

CBS is adding new shows according to Chief Executive Leslie Moonves who says the network needs to choose and broadcast shows audience for the fall season. All shows for the coming season have a hint of humor which seems to sell the most now.

CBS has picked a lineup of teeth clenching dramas which is the main sourse of income for the Corporation. They spent $26.2 Million to release shows in the first quarter but their losses were much lesser than last years $55.3 Million.
