BMW to recall nearly 570,000 cars in US and Canada over battery cables issue

According to the documents posted to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website on Saturday, German automaker BMW is issuing a recall of nearly 570,000 cars in the US and Canada, due to a problem with a battery cable connector which can fail and cause the stalling of the engines.

As per the NHTSA document, the recall will affect BMW's 3-Series sedans, wagons, convertibles and coupes from the model years 2007 to 2011; as well as the 2008-2012 model year 1-Series coupes and convertibles; and the Z4 sports cars from model years 2009 through 2011.

Germany-based luxury car maker BMW recently took wraps off its fifth-generation 3 Series Touring, which is more spacious inside than ever before.

The all-new 2013 3 Series Touring sedan is longer than the predecessor by 97mm, and its height is 11mm more at 1429mm.

Its 50mm longer wheelbase than the previous Touring allows it to provide an extra 35 litres of storage with the rear seats up. With the seats folded down, the new vehicle promises 1500 litres of space in total.

The 2013 3 Series Touring will be available in a choice of three advanced, powerful, yet economic engines.

Luxury car maker BMW will recall a total of 120,246 vehicles in China to fix their battery issues, the world’s most populous country’s quality control agency revealed.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection & Quarantine announced on Tuesday that that car maker will roll back the models of the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 6 Series Coupe and the BMW 6 Series Convertible, manufactured between 2003 and 2010.

The roll back will start from 10th of May this year.

Premium car maker, BMW said on Tuesday that it will introduce the new 5 series sedan from its facility near Chennai. The company is aiming to get back its pole position in the Indian luxury car market from rival Mercedes Benz.

BMW emerged as the largest seller of luxury cars in the country with 3,941 units for the financial year ended March 2010. The company lost its position to Mercedes in the last quarter after the production of 5 Series was halted.

In fact, in terms of the Retail sale which is the actual number of cars sold by dealers to customers, in May 2010 Mercedes-Benz banked 381 units while BMW sold 271 units and Audi stood at 200 units. However, for the period of Jan-May 2010 Mercedes-Benz netted 2025 while BMW sold 1892 units and Audi stood at 1167 Units.
