Alcatel Lucent, the European telecom gear maker may set up its global services headquarters in India. Chief executive Ben Varwaayen told that to the media on Friday.
The telecom gear maker may spend over $500 million in India over three years time if it decides to shift its services headquarters here.
Nr. Verwaayen said that India has lot of potential in terms of cost and people. Alcatel has keen interest in making India its fourth pillar. At present it considers China, US and France as its three pillars.
Alcatel is to make it debut in the Indian market with the launch of three handset sin partnership with TCT Mobile and Dutch company ICE Mobile Network Systems. The TCT Mobile will launch operation in the country with the brand name Alcatel and the handsets will be called Alcatel ICE.
The company will enter with the handset called Alcatel ICE3 priced at around Rs 7,000. The Alcatel ICE3 will offer comprehensive social networking features targeting the young mobile users in the country.
