Samsung launches NX10 series of digital cameras in India
Samsung India has announced the launch of its new high-end NX10 series of compact digital cameras in the Indian market.
The NX10 series comprises of two variants of the mirror-less interchangeable lens camera. The cameras come with auto focus, 14.6 MP APS-C size CMOS sensor and 3.0 inches AMOLED screen.
The camera offers various advanced features like in-depth manual controls, Smart Auto function, DRIMe II Pro engine and advanced AF algorithm. The first variant with an 18-55mm lens kit is priced at Rs 42,990 while the second with 30mm Pan Cake lens is priced at Rs 44,990.
The South Korean giant is aiming to increase its market share in the segment to 20 per cent this year. The digital camera market in the country was at 1.2 million units last year and will touch 1.5 million units by the end of the year.
"Digital camera segment is a focus and growth area this year. We are looking for 90 per cent volume growth, besides targeting 20 per cent market share this year from eight per cent last year," a company spokeswomen said.
She indicated that even as the Digital cameras account for a very little portion of the overall Samsung sales however it has recorded significant growth rate of about 80 per cent per year.
"Through the NX10, we are getting into the upper end digital camera segment. We are targeting digital compact users, who want to upgrade themselves to an advanced version, or professionals, who want compact and lighter
(cameras) with the required features," she added.
The company will increase its retail presence by entering into partnerships with large electronic stores in the country to achieve its target. The company had focused only on camera stores and some large format retails chains but this year it will expand to retail chains along with other consumer electronics shops.
Samsung plans to increase its presence from 1,500 stores last year to about 2,500 this year. The company is a major player in the consumer electronics segment in India. It recorded total sales of $ 2.2 billion last year.
