Report: Shigeru Miyamoto is mulling retirement from his present position at Nintendo
In a Wednesday report, Wired. com has said that Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto - who has played a very important part in bringing the video game industry to its present stature - is vacating his current post at the company --- that of the Senior Managing Director and General Manager of Nintendo's Entertainment Analysis and Development Division.
The report underscores that 59-year-old Miyamoto - a game design icon who created iconic game franchises like Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. - is apparently mulling a major career move.
While the report mentions the possibility of Miyamoto stepping down from the position he presently holds at Nintendo, it is being speculated that he still will continue his association with Nintendo.
In what can be seen as somewhat of a confirmation of the Wired. com report, Miyamoto has himself stated that he has, of late, been declaring inside the Nintendo office his intention of retiring. However, he also added that his retirement would, by no means, imply that he would move away from game development for good.
Saying that "what I mean by retiring is, retiring from my current position," Miyamoto elaborated that his main objective in mulling the retirement option is that he wants to be "in the forefront of game development once again."
About his supposed post-retirement plans, Miyamoto said that he may decide to work on a smaller project, in which much younger developers may be involved. He further added: "Or I might be interested in making something that I can make myself, by myself. Something really small."
