Number of Mobile Data Connections to Cross 1 Billion Mark by 2013- IDC
After extensive analysis, IDC has revealed that the number of mobile devices accessing the internet is expected to be well beyond the 1 billion users mark as 2013 rolls in. With almost every mobile device nowadays boasting internet connectivity, IDC has estimated that there are about 450 million mobile net users across the world, and the number will continue to rise as time goes by.
"The number of mobile devices with Internet access has simply exploded over the last several years. With a wealth of information and services available from almost anywhere, Internet-connected mobile devices are reshaping the way we go about our personal and professional lives", said John Gantz, Chief Research Officer at IDC.
According to IDC figures, nearly 1.6 billion people around the globe access internet in one way or the other in present times, and from the one can infer that 1.6 billion devices are used for the purpose. The report submitted, thus, predicts that by 2013, there would be about
2.7 billion people accessing the internet worldwide, from 2.7 billion different devices.
"Presently, the United States has far more total devices connected to the Internet than any other country. China, however, is the leader in the number of mobile online devices with almost 85 million mobile devices connected to the Internet in 2009", said IDC, while stressing that use of internet on mobile devices is about to "explode even more".
