Kapil Sibal plans Navratna varsities
To make the higher education developmental, environmentally sound, and all-inclusive, India's Science and Technology minister, Kapil Sibal on Monday announced that a plan of having 'Navratna' universities, on the lines of the famous Ivy League varsities are in the pipeline.
Further he went on to add that the intention of the Centre government basically was to nurture the select universities like the public sector Navratna's.
To ensure this, the government will be giving them great support financial support, and access for external funding and complete autonomy, which will give independent working style. He made the promises at the 98th Indian Science Congress at the SRM University at Kattankulathur.
He also plans to launch 14 innovation universities that will encourage research work through exceptional science and technology in competition to the rest of the world.
They will help find solutions to problems of hunger, water, poverty and diseases. They would also be focusing on Arts and Social Sciences. He also emphasized on giving some incentives to the private sector players who are interested to invest in these universities.
