India needs inclusive growth: Azim Premji
While various political parties and business organizations have centered their focus on achieving economic growth ahead of imminent general elections, Wipro chairman Azim Premji has stressed on the need of inclusive growth.
Addressing a gathering at 13th graduation day of Indian School of Business (ISB) on Sunday, Mr. Premji said that India doesn't need just growth; rather it needs inclusive growth.
He said there was a need to be conscious of the reality of extraordinary inequality, deprivation and injustice prevalent across the country.
Delivering his speech, the well-known philanthropist said, "There is extraordinary inequality, deprivation, and injustice all around us. I think we need to be conscious of this reality . India does not need just growth, it needs inclusive growth."
He recalled an incident in Yadgir district of Karnataka, in which he poor children, who were less than the schooling age, going to school along with their elder brothers and sisters so that they could get a little to eat from their elder siblings' free mid-day meal.
Encouraging ISB graduates to help the less privileged, he asked them to get engaged with the less privileged, and devote their time if not their resources. Stressing on the importance of hard work and perseverance, Mr. Premji said no innovation or big idea can compensate for lack of hard work and perseverance.
