GM bets big on Talegaon Engine plant

It has been learned from the sources that the Indian subsidiary of General Motors, General Motors India (GMI) will be inaugurating its engine plant at the Talegaon on the 12th of November.

It is to be mentioned here that this plant will be first flexi plant from General Motors that will produce both diesel and petrol engines, anywhere in the world. P Balendran, VP, GMI, said that the company will be producing the diesel one litre engine for the Beat to start with and it will be the first locally made diesel engine for GM India.

Moreover, Balendran also mentioned the fact that the company will be launching the product in the first quarter of 2011 and it will be followed by the CNG version of Beat.

There is no denying the fact that the hatchback Beat has been one of the most sought after models in the Indian market and the diesel and the CNG variants will only bring additional volumes to the company in the domestic circuit.

Coupled with its first hatchback model, Spark, the Beat is surely going to take GM India to new heights in the times to come.
