Kapil Sibal plans Navratna varsities

To make the higher education developmental, environmentally sound, and all-inclusive, India's Science and Technology minister, Kapil Sibal on Monday announced that a plan of having 'Navratna' universities, on the lines of the famous Ivy League varsities are in the pipeline.

Further he went on to add that the intention of the Centre government basically was to nurture the select universities like the public sector Navratna's.

Goa University to set up Marine research centre

The Goa University (GU) is planning to set up a marine microbial diversity research centre with the department of earth sciences of the centre.

Vice-chancellor D Deobagkar announced the setting up of the centre while he was speaking at the biodiversity awareness programme sponsored by UGC and organized by GU's botany department. The research centre will be a national facility and will have a smaller unit in Chennai.

University of Madras launches initiatives to promote Tamil

The Vice-Chancellor G Thiruvasagam of the University of Madras has announced a set of initiatives to promote the Tamil language in the institution. The initiatives come just after the World Classical Tamil Conference.

All the staff members who speak Tamil as mother tong will have to sign in Tamil from July 5 onwards. The vice chancellor has also decided to rename various campuses of the university after poets of the language.

The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Belgaum has announced the results for 8th semester B.E. and B.Tech courses.

The results can be accessed on the official website of the university, at results.vtu.ac.in. However, the site appears overloaded and takes time to load.

The students have to enter subjects name and roll number in the given box and press submit. A lot of students might be attempting to access the results putting pressure on the site. Many students are facing difficulties in opening the site.

IIM-A can now set up campus abroad: Barua

Director Samir Bare of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) told the press persons on Wednesday that the institute may set up a campus overseas.

Union ministry of human resource development was not in favor of the idea of IIMs and IITs setting up their campuses abroad even in the very recent past but at last IIM-A had received the green signal.

The ministry has permitted the Indian institutes like IIMs and IITs to set up their campuses overseas like they have allowed the foreign institutes to come in India.

MCKVIE ties up with UK based IET for joint initiatives

MCKV Institute of Engineering (MCKVIE) based in Kolkata has entered into a partnership with Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) from UK to begin an IET UK Student Chapter at the city college.

The two institutes will also have joint initiatives for enhancing employability and giving practical exposure to the students. The new student chapter led by Managing Trustee of the Institute, Mr K. K. Kejriwal started at the college campus with 18 student members along with a faculty coordinator and few advisors.
