Caretel wins two-year contract from MTNL

BPO services provider Caretel, a Dalmia group company, today secured a two-year contract from state-run MTNL to manage its in-bound call centre operations of GSM network in Mumbai.

The contract is for an initial 200 seats, and this will help MTNL to save costs and increase profitability.

Under the arrangement, Caretel will offer MTNL customers seamless, multi-lingual voice and data support through its call centre.

Country records 1.31 lakh job losses in 3 months: Survey

BPOGlobal slowdown has turned 1.31 lakh persons jobless in last three months, according to a quarterly report by the labor bureau on the slowdown and its impact on employment in India. Indian manufacturing and service sectors, including textile, export, Information Technology, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and gems and jewellery sectors, have been adversely hit due to low demand in the global market, forcing these sectors to shed jobs during April-June 2009.

eClerx net profit rises 115% in Q2 period

eClerx Services, a listed knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) firm, has posted 115% surge in its net profit to Rs 14.07 crore for Q2 ended September 30, 2008, thanks to huge volume growth from its existing top clients.

The company had registered net profit worth Rs 6.53 crore in the corresponding quarter last financial year.

The revenues for the latest quarter have also doubled to Rs 49.09 crore from Rs 25.25 crore year-on-year (YoY).

Infosys opens second BPO at Jaipur

Infosys BPO, the business process outsourcing unit of India's leading software firm Infosys Technologies, has invested Rs 171 crore towards setting up the Phase-I of its second campus in Jaipur.

The new campus, which is situated at the Mahindra World City special economic zone (SEZ) will be spread over 42 acres of land and built with total investment of Rs 531 crore.

The company has created a built-up area of 3,69,100 square feet with a seating capacity of 3,200 people, during its first phase.

Sundaram Business launches fifth BPO facility in Chennai

Chennai-based Sundaram Business Services (SBSL), the BPO arm of Sundaram Finance, today inaugurated its fifth BPO facility in Chennai.

SBS provides accounting services, auto and consumer loans processing, deposit processing and insurance related processing services. The new facility can house up to 200 employees.

The company is also planning to set up similar facility in Madurai and is planning to hire around 500 professionals in this Tier II city by 2008 end.

An advanced Data Masking Technology has been invented by the researchers at IBM’s India Research Laboratory. This latest technology would safeguard The Call Centre and Information Technology Enabled Service (ITES) from leaking vital information from falling in unsafe hands.

The device basically aims at masking and saving the secret data and information of the clients around the world.

Tricom India acquires US-based Pacific Data Centres

Tricom India, a company specializing in non-voice BPO has acquired US-based Pacific Data Centres, through its subsidiary Tricom Document Management for $2.25 million.

PDC provides "virtual" administrative and management functions, including data entry, data conversion, imaging, OCR, medical billing, claims, processing, printing mailing and lock box services. Its customers include government agencies, hospitals, insurance companies, direct mailers, banks, aerospace companies, utilities and management organizations.

Indian BPO Business To Achieve $50 Billion By 2012

The Indian BPO industry has set a target of touching $50 billion in proceeds by the next five years (2012). This would be a five-fold expansion by 2012. The sector will also see an increase of 2 million people during the same period.

National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) feels that a fivefold increase in BPO industry in five years might seems a big order, but for the strong Indian business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, it’s not difficult to achieve the said target.
