Art of Living employees receive SMS threats for ransom
The employees at the Art of Living ashram have received SMS threats form unidentified persons demanding a ransom of Rs 42 crore.
The senders of the messages are threatening that they will defame the organization if the ransom is not paid. Gireem Govind, AoL spokesperson said that the employees were receiving the SMS messages form the last three days and earlier they tried to ignore them but when the frequency increased they decided to inform the police.
“On an average we have received two to three calls per day since the last weekend. The last one came on Monday afternoon. The callers threatened to defame the organisation if we didn’t pay them a ransom of Rs 42 crore. The calls have been made from within the country,” he said.
Govind said that the police have been informed. Inspector General of Police, Kamal Panth asked them to register a police complaint at the jurisdictional police station. The complaint was registered around 7.45 pm at the Talghattapura police station against some unknown men under Sections of the Indian Penal Code including 384 for extortion.
The Art of Living foundation run by by Sri Sri Ravishankar was in the news earlier due to a reported shootout scare. The incident was taken as an attempt of assassination on the spiritual guru however later it was found that a farm owner next to the ashram shot the bullet aimed at a stray dog.
