Airtel to offer Facebook in five languages for free

Leading telecom service provider, Airtel is offering access to the mobile version of the popular networking site, Facebook to its subscribers for free and it is also the first network to offer it in as many as five languages.

Initially the site will be available in Hindi and English and later in Punjabi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam for over 130 million subscribers of Airtel in the country.

Bharti Airtel, CMO (Mobile Services), Shireesh Joshi said, “Our mobile customers will also be the first in the world to enjoy Facebook on their Airtel mobile in five vernacular languages. All these reiterate our commitment to customers to offer the best value-for-money services that enable their lifestyles.”

The site will be available free of cost only for a period of two months. The subscribers will be able to access the site and use various features without paying any data charge until August 31.

The comoany said in a statement, "For the two-month period, the partnership enables Airtel customers to access Facebook’s full mobile site faster and at no data cost from their Airtel mobiles via m.facebook.com."

Customers will have to SMS ‘FACEBOOK’ to 54321 to register for the offer. About 100 million Facebook users log onto to the social networking phenomenon using their mobile devices.

Rajat Gupta, former board of director at Goldman Sachs Group, has sought re-trial over the insider trading case in which he was handed down a two-year prison term along with a $5 million fine.

On Tuesday, Gupta's lawyer Seth Waxman questioned the authenticity of the wiretap evidence that was accepted by US District Court Judge Jed Rakoff to penalize Gupta in October last year.

Essar Oil to sign loan deal with CDB

India's second largest private refiner, Essar Oil Ltd is expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with officials of the China Development Bank (CDB) for up to $ 1 billion loan deal backed by supply of refined products to state-run, PetroChina.

The agreement is expected to be signed on Tuesday when the Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang visits Mumbai. The loan is expected to be backed by refined products from Essar's Vadinar refinery in Gujarat. The deal is a type of export advance to reduce debt by the company.
