Ford to invest $500M to make new engine at Ohio plant

American automobile giant Ford Motor Co on Friday announced its decision to spend $500 million to upgrade its Ohio-based engine plant to enable it to produce the new 2.7-liter six-cylinder EcoBoost engine.

The Lima Engine Plant, which currently makes 3.5-liter and 3.7-liter V6 engines for a range of Ford models including the Edge, will make the EcoBoost V6 engines that are turbocharged and make use of gasoline direct-injection to deliver the power of larger engines. The new engines will be used to the company's F-150 pickup trucks.

Facebook's photo-sharing service Instagram is closing in on Twitter, thanks to its faster than ever seen before growth rate.

According to figures released by research firm eMarketer, nearly 35 million people in the United States alone used Instagram at least once a month in 2013. The figure is not far below Twitter's figure of 43.2 million, given the fact that Twitter is four years older than Instagram.

AWS authorized to work with all Department of Defense agencies

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud services arm of Amazon, has been awarded with security authorization to work with all agencies within the U. S. Department of Defense (DoD).

AWS said it met the Department of Defense's security requirements in all regions in the country, particularly AWS regions like its AWS GovCloud. The Department of Defense gave it the authorization for its cloud security level 1-2.

Brazil approves bill to protect internet users’ rights

The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies has finally given its approval to the main text of a bill that aims to regulate the internet and protect the rights of its users.

A few weeks back, World Wide Web (WWW)-creator Sir Tim Berners-Lee had called for a "Bill of Rights" for the internet on its 25th anniversary. Yesterday, Brazil became the first country to pass a bill for the internet.

The new internet law called "Marco Civil da Internet" will function as a constitution for the internet. It will ensure certain rights, principles, and obligations related to internet.

Bill seeks improvement in U.S. auto industry’s reporting of safety issues

Two U. S. senators on Tuesday proposed legislation that aims to improve the auto industry's reporting of safety issues by requiring automakers to disclose more information about deadly crashes.

Senators Edward Markey (D-Mass.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said the bill would require automakers to give regulators more information about fetal accidents involving their vehicles. It addition, it would force the government to make that information more readily available to the public.

Cisco to invest $1bn to expand cloud business globally

Sony’s PS Vita receives major system update

Sony's portable gaming device PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) is receiving a new system software update that brings a host of tweaks and enhancements and makes it even more functional.

The update 3.02 increases the number of maximum apps displayable on the home screen from 100 to a whopping 500.

It also brings a new calendar app that enables users to sync with their Google Calendar to get all their events with them on the device. A user can set up gaming events with his/her friends, as well as share their favorite events with friends with the help of the Messages and Email apps.

Nintendo looking to bring Unity Engine to 3DS

The Unity Engine, a tool that allows game developers to develop game apps for a variety of different platforms, will also be available for the Nintendo 3DS.

The Wii U already has the Unity Engine, which has allowed more independent developers to develop apps for the Wii U; the Nintendo 3DS still lacks it. Fortunately, the game developer has announced that it is now looking into making the engine available for the 3DS too.

At the recently held Game Developers Conference, Nintendo's marketing senior manager Damon Baker hinted about the potential of bringing the Unity Engine to the 3DS.

Microsoft can use its subscription service for Office, Office 365, to make the popular suite available to iPad users. The Microsoft Office 365 suite costs £79.99 ($99.99) per year, or £7.99 ($9.99) per month. Apart from the Office suite, it gives users OneDrive storage, international Skype minutes, as well as syncing between devices.

Mozilla's recent decision to stop the development of its Firefox browser for Windows 8.1 was partly because of a complexity linked with the operating system, a Mozilla engineer hinted in a blog post.

Pandora on Tuesday announced that it would charge $4.99 per month from new users of its ad-free PandoraOne service, up $1 a month from existing fee. Existing subscribers will continue to pay $3.99 a month for the service.

U.S. gasoline prices expected to jump further

The U. S. national average retail gasoline price, which has jumped 2.6 cents in the last one week period to $3.50 per gallon, will likely jump further in the coming weeks, as per gasoline price website GasBuddy. com.

Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy. com, said the gasoline prices might slow nationally in the near future but the peak in prices was yet to be seen.

Refineries will soon undergo one of their two yearly maintenance seasons. The wrap up of refineries for maintenance often leads to increase in gasoline prices.
